We thought we would say this but it has been hot in London! It has been 70 years since London has had this type of weather (no rain for over 3 months) The grass is all brown and the leaves on some of the trees are starting to fall. Most people do not have sprinklers as it rains all the time and they don't worry about watering lawns and etc. We have seen the Wimbledon Tennis matches, The Royal Ascot Horse Races, and the World Cup Football (we call it soccer in the states) on TV. Yes the Royal Ascot Race is just like the movie "My Fair Lady" with the men wearing top hats and the women wear the most outrages hats I have ever seen. We have seen the longest tennis match in history and have seen the queen give trophies to the winners of the races. We took off site seeing to see the Dartmoor National Park and saw wild horses roaming the moors and took a great hike down the Lynford Gorge with beautiful trees, flowers, and the wild Devil's Caldron. We also saw an ancient church that is built high on a hill and only used during Easter and Christmas. England is just amazing with all the rolling hills and hedge rows with sheep and cattle roaming around. The following Saturday we went to Winchester to meet Peter and his wife Trish ( Peter worked with us at the archives and is an church employee) . They gave us a walking tour of Winchester. If you are a Beatles fan they use to sing a song about Winchester Cathedral. Yes, we did visit there and found out the Jane Austin lived her last years in Winchester and is buried in the Cathedral. We also saw where King Arthur's Knight of the round table is kept. Yes, it is still in existence in the Great Hall with plaques on the wall of all the knights. We saw an old mill that is still grinding flower and then walked to the famous Westminster College and took a tour. It costs 30,000 pounds a year to send a boy there (it is a boys only school). This college was started in 1382 and the Gothic Chapel that was built in the 1400's is still standing and in remarkable condition. There is so much history here and it is amazing how the old buildings are still standing. Yes, they do have laptops and all the up to date equipment. We have started our next phase at the archives and have found that one box hold around 1400 to 1500 images. It has been challenging, but we are all doing great.
